ESTABLISHMENT
On September 14, 1992, the parliament of
Kurdistan Region issued a decree establishing University of Dohuk, to be
comprised of two colleges: College of Medicine and College of Agriculture.
The University enrolled students almost at the beginning of the academic
year 1992/1993. The first semester started on October 31, 1992.
Afterwards, more colleges were opened. As a complementary to the
University structure, many scientific centers were established in the
University during the past years. Postgraduate Studies leading to both
M.Sc. and M.A. degrees were commenced in the University in 1997.
Afterwards, in 1998, postgraduate studies leading to Ph.D. degree were
started. In the academic year 1998/1999, the University is internationally
recognized as a member of International Association of Universities (IAU).
FINANCE
Dohuk University is a state university affiliated with the
Council of Higher Education and Scientific Research and is supported by
the Kurdistan Regional Government. The study in the University is free of
charge for students who are citizens of Kurdistan Region. The University
carries on its tasks depending on an annual budget allocated by the
government..
