The First Scientific Conference of Duhok University was held during 27 – 29 April 1999. Nearly, 202 papers were submitted to the editorial board of the conference. After conventional scientific evaluation by experts, only 141 papers, by 203 contributors, were qualified to be read. More than 250 academicians and researchers from the universities and institutes of Kurdistan Region attended the conference.

The Proceedings of the conference were published in the issues of May 1999 – November 1999 of the Journal of Duhok University: Pure and Applied Sciences (7 issues) and Humanities (6 issues).

 

Courses

You can take several courses at once:

Maths, Physics and / or Political Science

After you hand in your papers, you will hopefully get one, two, three or even four points.

 

Students

The female/male ratio of the student averages to more than 2/5 excluding the College of: Legislation and Islamic Studies.

The welfare of the students, as a basic aim of the university, is supervised by the Student Affairs Committee which organizes various student affairs, such as:

·        Organizing student’s extra-curricular activities, such as parties, picnics, and scientific debates

·        Arranging means of transportation for students

·        Supporting poor students financially

·        Cooperating with college deanships and student unions for the benefit of the students.

 

Summer Training

Each summer, students in their third year spend a month in one of the establishments, factories or institutions throughout the region of Kurdistan, in order to acquaint themselves with the practical applications of their subject. The training course is considered, especially in the scientific colleges, as obligatory part of the curriculum that students must accomplish.

In these training courses, each student has two supervisors- one from the College in which he/she studies, and the other from the place in which he/she takes training. The former is academic, while the latter is practical. A committee from the department in which the student studies supervises the summer training of students.

 

Student’s Sport Activities

Each year, the University holds a Sports Championship among the college teams, including football, basketball, volleyball, and handball, supervised by the University Sport Body. Athletic facilities for such sports and games are available in The Sports Hall in the College of Agriculture.

The University participates in sport activities of regional universities and institutes.

 

Student's Residence Halls

The University provides dormitories for both male and female students who come from outside the city of Duhok. These dormitories consist of four main buildings in the newly founded University Campus east to the Malta Hill and west to Duhok-Zakho cross road. Each building has a capacity of 100 students. These students are provided with free accommodations.

 Presently the University of Duhok has of eight colleges with a total of 1689 students, distributed as follows:

 

 1.      College of Medicine: 286 students in four departments, Surgery and Anatomy, Parasitology and Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and Pathology & Histology, all offering a six year course leading to the degree of MBChB.

 

2.      College of Agriculture: 134 students in two departments, Plant Production and Animal Production, both offering a four-year course leading to the degree of BSc in Agriculture.

 

3.      College of Engineering: 203 students in two departments, Civil Engineering and Irrigation & Drainage, both offering a four-year course leading to the degree of BSc in Engineering.

 

4.      College of Arts: 396 students in three departments, Kurdish language, History and English, all offering a four-year course leading to a BA in Arts.
 

5.      College of Management and Economic: 259 students, offering a four-year course leading to the BSc degree in ME.
 

6.      College of Sharia (Islamic Studies) : 255 students
 

7.      College of Veterinary: 23 students offering a five-year course leading to the B.Sc. in Veterinary Science.
 

8.      College of Science (two Dept. only: Physics & Mathematics): 114 students offering a four year course leading to a B.Sc. degree in science.
